Leading property developers, Ergo Real Estate, worked with Office Principles to develop Great Charles Street, a unique office space in the heart of Birmingham. Located in the city’s central business district, the 67,000 sq ft space delivers a stylish and modern office space across two buildings, and includes new reception and common areas, breakout spaces and communal meeting rooms.
With their tenants at the heart of every decision, Ergo designed their Great Charles Street location to enhance their occupiers’ working lives, and the fit out focussed on providing a smart and sophisticated space with a range of high-end facilities. With the expectations of the workplace changing at a rapid pace, the future of the workplace places emphasis on the experience, creating an innovative and memorable destination where employees or tenants want to spend time. Ergo knew it was vital to be ahead of the curve, so made sure their space would offer everything their tenants want and more.
First-class coffee experience
From enabling collaboration and building relationships, to giving us a much-needed morning caffeine boost, the coffee machine plays a vital role in the modern workplace. And with employees expecting a premium coffee experience at work, it’s important to get it right. With Great Charles Street design placing tenants at its core, Ergo recognised the importance of providing a first-class coffee experience and worked with their designer, Office Principles, to incorporate two TopBrewer coffee machines into the project. TopBrewer’s unique design, with its under-counter brew unit and sleek swan neck tap, lends itself perfectly to the high-end, stylish environment Ergo wanted to create at Great Charles Street.
The TopBrewer design is so sleek, they really smarten up the space, and our tenants have been really impressed both with the look and the coffee.

With hundreds of tenants to cater for, the ability to offer a wide menu of drinks was an important factor in the decision to install TopBrewer. Users can choose between barista-quality coffees, hot water for tea drinkers, luxury hot chocolate and chilled still and sparkling water, and the intuitive TopBrewer app gives the ability to customise each drink to meet their exact taste.

Not only does it give tenants the freedom and flexibility to make their coffee their own, it also helps keep them safe, eliminating the need to touch shared surfaces and buttons and meaning they no longer have to venture off-site to get a great cup of coffee.

From an operational perspective, TopBrewer was designed to make life easier. By streamlining your drinks solutions with TopBrewer, it not only saves space and helps eliminate clutter, but also means maintenance and cleaning is super quick and simple.
The fact that tenants can use their own phones to order is great for complying with Covid rules, and everyone is loving that they can customise their drink using the app.
The cleaning process is straightforward and really easy to do. It only takes 5 minutes, so we know our tenants won’t be waiting around for a coffee.
TopBrewer provides a wide range of barista-style, bean-to-cup beverages from a sleek swan neck tap, with the machine itself discreetly housed under the counter to provide a clutter-free service area.
Staff and visitors make drinks to their exact requirements through the iPad set into the worktop or through the app on their phone.
